While many took to the internet to mourn the loss of the actor, some were quick to judge and direct their negative energy toward his daughter, Zelda. After Zelda saw rude comments, she decided it would be best to take a step back and delete her Instagram and Twitter accounts.
The 25-year-old wrote, “I will be leaving this account for a [bit] while I heal and decide if I’ll be deleting it or not. In this difficult time, please try to be respectful of the accounts of myself, my family and my friends. Mining our accounts for photos of dad, or judging me on the number of them is cruel and unnecessary. There are a couple throughout, but the real private moments I shared with him were precious, quiet, and believe it.”
It is quite disturbing that anyone would write malicious things to Zelda during this difficult time (or at all!). Loss is hard enough and there is no need to try to add more pain to another’s life. If you ever see your friends begin to cyberbully, stand up to them and let them know just how uncool it really is.
On Tuesday, Zelda released a formal statement, revealing, “To those he touched who are sending kind words, know that one of his favorite things in the world was to make you all laughs. As for those who are sending negativity, know that some small, giggling part of him is sending a flock of pigeons to your house to poop on your car. Right after you’ve had it washed. After all, he loved to laugh too.”
